Naomi's Triumph to the Kenya National Theatre

A group of 88 spoken word poets is currently undergoing a transformative poetry development training at the Kenya National Theater in Nairobi. Among them stands Naomi, a proud alumna of GLOW, whose passion for poetry since high school to become one of the chosen few for this prestigious program is an object of envy for us.

The Genesis of the Poet: Naomi's love affair with poetry began in her teenage years, where she discovered the magic of words and the power they held. Her very first "shairi", Swahili for poem, resonated so deeply that it found its way into a national newspaper, marking the humble beginnings of a talent that would later bloom into something extraordinary.

Fast forward to 2023, and Naomi found herself immersed in this highly sought-after program which is not just about honing poetic skills but is a peer-driven mechanism designed for social and economic stability. The virtual training, which started in September, culminated in November, setting the stage for the physical training all through to December.

The physical training at the Kenya Cultural Centre, incorporating Kenya National Theatre (KNT), has brought together Naomi and 14 other talented poets. Their mission: to collaborate, organize, and produce a ticketed performance at the Kenya National Theatre on December 10th, promising an afternoon filled with the raw beauty of spoken word poetry.

The performance is not just a showcase of Naomi’s artistic prowess but a show of the dedication and passion that fuels her craft. It's a chance for the public to witness the result of competitive auditions and rigorous participation requirements that only the most talented poets could overcome.
