Community Support

GLOW’s annual Community Outreach Program is a communal community service project geared towards enhancing our direct impact on local communities through service and problem solving. A group of GLOW beneficiaries come together to serve a specific community after identifying an area of need.

Eldoret

Our first event was in 2022 at Berur Children’s Home in Eldoret, where the girls focused on mentoring children and teenagers.

GLOW scholars taught the children at the Berur Home basic life skills such as self-esteem, critical thinking, assertiveness, self awareness, and personal hygiene: skills that are frequently overlooked in the educational curriculum despite their importance to children’s development.

Kibera

During our 2023 event, we partnered with the Mazingira Women Initiative, an environmental conservation and justice organization and the Kenyatta University Environmental Club.

The girls volunteered at Mazingira Women Initiative's urban farm in Kibera, Africa’s largest slum. They helped with vegetable harvesting, weeding gardens and planting. They also learnt about organic small-scale farming in urban areas to increase food security, as well as the connection between agriculture, the environment and climate change.

13,500 hours of service poured back into local communities by GLOW recipients

 They Pay it Forward

Beyond our communal projects, GLOW recipients are true community champions! As a prerequisite for their scholarships, each girl dedicates a minimum of 15 hours per semester to impactful community service of choice. But here's the catch – it's not just about meeting requirements; it's about the girls identifying community needs, taking charge, giving back and making a lasting impact.
