Florence’s Story

Florence scored in the top 8% on her national KCSE exam, which is equivalent to the American SAT! She recognizes the value of teaching youth how to use technology to advance their communities because of the impact it has had on her own life. Initially raised by her grandmother after her mother died, Florence had to move in with her uncle when her grandmother fell ill.

The loss of my mother at a tender age has really shaped me into this strong woman I am today. At first, it was very hard for me to accept the change but with time I learned to accept change and let go of some things. The experience also taught me how to live with different kinds of people and most important, understand them.

This took a toll on her life as a young girl but she never gave up on her education. Florence’s passion for technology was formed when she was in high school at Daraja Academy. She never thought she would be able to pursue her dream until she applied to be a GLOW Scholar. Now, Florence works to fulfill her goals of creating software that helps individuals learn new solutions in the rapidly changing world of technology.
