Jecinta’s Story
Jecinta grew up in a small village in central Kenya with her five siblings in one small room and her parents in the other room of a dirt-floor home. Her battles with severe physical illness as a young girl frequently kept Jecinta from school. Medical bills were an added burden to her family as they struggled to cover food, education, and other necessities. Despite these obstacles, Jecinta worked twice as hard to get through school. As a GLOW Girl Scholar, Jecinta has the support needed to achieve a college education and reach her goals and dreams.

“GLOW has enabled my life with a lot of meaning in it. We have annual GLOW meetings where we have the GLOW family together and the warmth from love really humbles me. Seeing the faces of others like me who are taking every step in life with purpose, courage, and determination gives me a full meaning of life and great depths of purpose.”

Jecinta remains passionate about helping others. She desires to use her education to provide for her family and remains determined to bring societal change to her community, advocating for the disadvantaged. One day, Jecinta dreams of working for the United Nations in disaster management and international relations to help bring societal transformation at a high level.
